Rofecoxin

1. Functional Groups: i. Aromatic ii. Alkene iii. Ester 

2. Uses: i. Anti-inflammatory drug: 1. Provides relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis 2. Management of acute pain in adults 3. Treatment of primary dysmenorrhea 

3.  Misuses: i. Do not use if you have: 1. Asthma 2. Urticaria 3. Allergic-type reactions after taking Aspirin 

4. Mechanism: i. Anti-inflammatory drug due to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis 

5. Side effects: i. Asthenia, fatigue, dizziness, influenza-like disease, lower extremity edema, sinusitis, upper respiratory infection, chest pain, chills, contusion, diaphragmatic hernia, fever, fungal infection, pelvic pain, tinnitus, and tonsilitis 

6.  When it was discovered: 1996

9. Still in use today? i. No, withdrawn from the market in 2004 due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke
